Manchester United have officially confirmed that Chris Smalling has joined AS Roma on a season-long loan deal,


AS Roma paid £2.7million to bring in the 29-years old united defender to Seria A for a 12 months deal.

the Manchester United defender Chris Smalling spent nine seasons at Old Trafford after completing £10m move from Fulham in 2010.

He made a total of 206 appearances and scored 12 goals as a man united player.

But the England international had been excluded from the 18-man match-day squad for all of United’s squads so far this season.

That’s after the Red Devils broke the world transfer record for a defender to bring Harry Maguire in from Leicester City for £80m.

According to the 29-year-old England center-back, “This is the perfect opportunity for me,”

“The chance to experience a new league, with a big team that has got big aspirations is exactly what I needed.

“Hopefully I can hit the ground running. I’m looking forward to joining up with my teammates.”

"Manchester – the club, the people, the city, has always held a special place in my heart but I still have as much desire to play regular first-team football as I did when I joined the club over 9 years ago," he tweeted.

"AS Roma is a fantastic club, with a lot of history and I’m relishing the new challenge they have offered me.

"I’m excited to experience a new league, experience the culture and get stuck in to support Roma’s domestic and European ambitions."
